Taste the Holy Land

“Taste the Holy Land” is more than the title of this fantastic culinary tour through Palestine and Israel. For nine full days, you will be traveling throughout the Holy Land enjoying traditional breakfasts, lunches, dinners and deserts, and on top of this, you will stop at famous wineries for wine tasting and an introduction to wine and beer manufacturing along the Jordan Valley.

Day 1
Arrival Day

Upon arrival to Tel Aviv Airport, and completing formalities and luggage claim, you will be met by your guide and driver. They will be with you throughout your journey. Transfer to your hotel in Jerusalem for dinner and overnight.

Day 2
The Old City of Jerusalem

For breakfast you will be a Jerusalemite and enjoy an authentic hearty breakfast (Hummos, fool, falafel, salad and bread with the usual mint tea) at the 1900’s family run Abu Shukri restaurant (its very local). Your guide will walk you through the streets of the Old City of Jerusalem. You will be introduced to the different bazaars where you will indulge in all the scents they offer, whether it be the spice bazaars or the fresh made brews of Arabic coffee.

Continue for lunch to Bint al-Balad, a women’s cooperative who prepare local dishes to visitors. Walk along the Via Dolorosa, the Basilica of St. Anne and the pools of Bethesda. Continue to the Church of the Holy Sepulchure for a visit Continue to. Return to your hotel for dinner and overnight.

Day 3
Mt. of Olives, Ein Kerem, Herodium

After breakfast you will board your coach and head to the Mt. of Olives for a panoramic view of Jerusalem then continue to visit Pater Noster church followed by the church of all nations and the basilica and garden of the Gethsemane.

Continue to visit Ein Karem, a picturesque ancient village known to be the home town for John the Baptist. Enjoy a light lunch in Ein Karem before continuing to Herodium another palace built by King Herod. Continue to Bethlehem and arrive at your hotel for dinner and overnight.

Day 4
Bethlehem, Beit Jala, Hebron

After breakfast visit the Church of Nativity, continue to the Shepherds field. Walk through the Old City of Bethlehem and admire the old architecture and the old market.

After your visits continue with your bus to the Cremisan Monastery and Winery where you will enjoy a wine tasting as well as an overview about the history, culture and difficulties of the clergy and the local Christian neighborhoods. Continue to visit and admire the pools of Suleimans Pools, from which water was drawn all the way to Jerusalem. Continue to Hebron to visit the Old City have an overview of local daily life then continue to have a Hebronite early dinner in a very local restaurant. Return to hotel in Bethlehem for overnight.

Day 5
Bethany, Birzeit, Aboud, Jifna, Ramallah

After breakfast you will depart your hotel and drive to Bethany to visit the Tomb of Lazarus, continue to Wadi el-Quelt to have a short hike and visit the hermit caves and monastery of St. George, the local Christian patron saint continue to Birzeit and onto the villages of Aboud and Jifna, traditionally Christian villages to meet the people and admire the surrounding areas and enjoy the nature of the region.

Arrive in Jifna for a locally family-prepared lunch. After your late lunch, continue to the bustling city of Ramallah to enjoy the famous Rukab ice-cream made with Arabic gum, creamy yet elastic. Arrive at your hotel in Ramallah for check-in and overnight.

Day 6
Tubas, Jenin, Nablus

Depart the hotel to the northern village of Tubas and continue to Jenin to visit a traditional organic farm where you will meet the main person behind restoring traditional methods of farming, visit the farm and then be divided into groups and participate in preparing a traditional meal. After a discussion about Palestinian cuisine and the traditional connection to the land you will head to Nablus for some traditional dessert prepared with special semolina dough and goat cheese and drizzled with rosemary flavored syrup. Continue to visit and meet the Samaritans. Return to your hotel in Ramallah for dinner and overnight.

Day 7
Massada, the Dead Sea & the Judean Desert, Jericho

Depart your hotel very early in the morning (optional) to visit Massada at dawn, continue to visit an oasis in the desert at Ein Gedi and have a swim at the Dead Sea.

In the early afternoon head into the Judean desert for an encounter with the nomads of Palestine, the Beduins, you will have a prepared meal served through the famous hospitality of the beduins. Return to Jericho continue to the Mt. of Temptation and ascend by cable car to the monastery. If time permits, visit the archeological sites at Hisham Palace before arriving at your hotel in Jericho for dinner and overnight.

Day 8
The Sea of Galilee, Bisan, Caphernaum, Nazareth

Depart from your hotel in the very early morning to the Galilee. Visit the baptismal site on the Jordan river, a site shared with the Kingdome of Jordan and continue along the Jordan valley and visit the ancient village of Bisan. Arrive at lake Tiberias where you will have a board your boat for a cruise on the lake. You will enjoy a St. Peters fish lunch and then visit Capernaum, Tabgha, and Cana before arriving at your hotel in Nazareth. You will check-in and enjoy a dinner in a traditional restaurant with local wines. In the evening, have a walk through the streets of Nazareth visiting Mary’s well and th Church of Annunciation.

Day 9
Haifa, Akko, Caesarea Maritima, Jaffa

After breakfast, you will head further north to visit the Druze community and enjoy their traditional shrak thin bread with a goat cheese spread, some dried thyme and olive oil. Continue to Haifa and visit the Stella Maris Monastery and the Bahai’ Gardens and continue to the wineries of Mt. Carmel. You will enjoy your time with some wine, cheese and local fruits.

Continue to Akko to visit the crusader fortress and then visit the roman capital of Palestine at Caesarea Maritima. Afterwards, proceed south on your coastal drive to the Metropolitan city of Tel Aviv where you will enjoy a traditional seafood and Mediterranean mezze dinner before arriving at your hotel for your final overnight.

Day 10
Departure Day

After breakfast, you will enjoy some free time in Tel Aviv until your departure time to the airport. After assisting you with formalities at the airport we bid you farewell on your return flight home.
